I was preparing for a Bible Study. This week we would be discussing God’s promise to free us from guilt and condemnation. I like to give real life examples, so that others can recognize the lies of the enemy in their lives, but I didn’t have anything good to expose condemnation. I wasn’t concerned about it though, I kind of knew the Lord was going to provide something. I thought that maybe someone else at the Bible study would have a good example of condemnation. So, I called it a night and went to bed.
While I was sleeping, I had a dream. A friend of mine had done something wrong. He had broken the law. So a police officer came and arrested him and put him in a police car. I was fine with that, because my friend really had broken the law and deserved to be corrected. I got in the back seat to drive with him to the courthouse.
But while we were on our way to the judge, the policeman turned around and reached over the back hisseat. He grabbed a blanket and threw it over my friend. But to my utter surprise he took a huge sledgehammerand with all his strength, started to beat him over the head!
I tried to stop him, but I wasn’t strong enough. I was screaming, “Don’t kill him! Don’t kill him!” Because I knew that’s what he was trying to do. He was trying to KILL him!
I kept fighting with the police officer, but he was relentless. I finally screamed at him, “Give me that!” and somehow, strength rose up in me and I was able to pull the sledgehammer from his hands and I angrily threw it out of the moving vehicle.
Then I woke up and immediately I knew what it meant, which is strange because usually I try to figure out the meaning of dreams, but can’t, until I humble myself and pray for understanding.
In the dream the policeman represented the Law. All of God’s righteous laws of right and wrong. And the sledgehammer represented condemnation.
We have all done things that are wrong. We’ve broken the law of God. But while we are on our way to the judge (who is Jesus) the law will try to kill us. He’ll keep beating us over the head again and again with condemnation and he won’t stop. He just keeps hitting us over the head with accusation after accusation. He wants us dead, because we have sinned and by law, we DESERVE DEATH!
But if only my friend could get to the judge! Jesus, our righteous judge, looks at us and even though we are guilty, he declares that our debt is paid!!
He will declare our debt, “Paid” every time that we come and stand before him. EVERY TIME! Because He has done everything that needed to be done to be able to forgive and receive us. And He is ready to do this every time we fail!
I’m so done with condemnation. It is killing the children of God. Especially, those that are weak and in bondage. It tells them that they are unacceptable, because they have failed. Maybe, because they have failed over and over again.
According to the law, they do deserve death. We all do. But praise the Lord, we are no longer under the law!! Romans 8:1 – There is therefore, now no condemnation to those that are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, has made me free from the law of sin and death. (NKJV)
I declare in the name of Jesus and because of all that He did on the cross that you are forever accepted and completely forgiven! Don’t run from the Lord, but runto Him. He is ready to proclaim that your debt is paid in full and that you are FREE
