What an awesome responsibility Mary and Joseph had carry! To raise the Son of God! I mean, it’s hard enough just being parents, but to have the weight of knowing that the Messiah was being taught and nurtured by you. Yikes! Then when he’s twelve years old, they LOST HIM! Okay, we all know where he was, because we get to read ahead in the book, but can you imagine how they felt! THEY LOST THE SON OF GOD!!!!
But was Jesus lost?
No…. He was about his Father’s business and he was actually surprised that they didn’t understand that and know right away where they should find him.
I think that sometimes we do the same thing. We’re going along in life and we’re doing great. Jesus is right there with us and everything is wonderful. Then somehow, we turn around and…. we’ve lost God. Maybe, things are not going the way we thought they would, or we don’t feel like we are as close to him as we once were. We may even start wondering if we did something wrong.
But I want to encourage you. You can’t lose Jesus.
Even when we don’t understand what is going on around us or we don’t feel like we’re close to him, that doesn’t mean that he has left or that we’ve lost him. We should know right where he is….. He’s about his Father’s business. And you know what that business is? His business is saving us! Saving us all the way! Until every part of us is right and free and until we possess every promise he has ever made. That’s where He is. And he looks at us, surprised, because we should know where He is and what He is doing. It’s the whole reason He came!
We serve a Mighty Savior and a Great Deliverer! He’s a big God and He’s able to handle all of our sin, our short comings and our problems. He is able to save us… and save us completely. And He’s not going anywhere. So if you feel like you don’t know where Jesus is right now. Just know…. He’s not lost….. He’s still about his Father’s business!
The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”Deut. 31:9
